2020 Updates !

*Blows off some cobwebs and dust*  Not gonna lie 2019 was not my year. Lots of things were going on and artistically my ideas and stories had so extremely eclipsed my skillset (despite significant amounts of time, money, and effort) that I didn’t see how I would ever be able to achieve those things I really wanted to with my art. So I went back to writing and wrote a book (go me!) and the whole time I was thinking I want to illustrate this, what would this scene look like in a comic, and so on. It was a kind of frustration I can’t even really begin to adequately describe.

Late 2019, though, I decided to give Daz3d Studio another go and it was like my love for creating art came back x1000. The ideas are flowing so quickly now I keep a notebook and app handy 24/7- especially now that I feel like the limits to what I can do are no longer limited to something nebulous and intangible as ‘talent’ and ‘art skill’ feel like they sometimes are. To be clearer I often felt like I was ‘studying’ and doing the things necessary to improve as an artist but that I wasn’t actually improving or at least not in a way fast enough or good enough to create the kind of art I wanted to create. I kept trying to push through and learn from each piece and then the two pieces that nearly broke me happened.

They weren’t overly complicated but I spent probably close to a hundred hours between the two trying to move forward but hating it and undoing, rinse repeat. The project these were suppose to be part of is near and dear so it was even more frustrating to see these deviating so far from what I had envisioned.

The biggest change came from finally letting go of weird and restrictive ideas about what was ‘ok’ and not ‘ok’ in creating my art. I still had weird hangups about using references, 3d models, color scheme generators etc.  So I wrote all that to say- 2020 is about letting go of all that unnecessary baggage. I’ve started a Instagram account devoted entirely to creating a daily 3D render, creating more art that is a blend of 2D/3D and sharing what I learn on the way. So for those of you that have been stopping by thank you, for new visitors hello and welcome, you all can expect in 2020:

  • New comics
  • Tips and Resources for Daz3d Studio
  • Photoshop resources and tips
  • Clip Studio Paint tutorials
  • A crap load of info about what I’m learning

I’m calling it now –2020 is the year of progress and storytelling– I can’t wait to share all the stories that 2019 couldn’t handle 🙂
